2013

It has been awhile since I posted last and I have been a little busy. That and the holiday season, from November until the end of December, is a distracting time for me. One of the things I'm proud to have worked on was three Baby Harley Quinn pieces I did for a friend who welcomed his baby girl, Harley to the world. So congratulations to Bob and Deb! Here are the pieces I did for them:

I also have quite the busy year planned out for me. At the end of this month I have a showing at my local comic book shop, Alternate Reality. Its part of their Artist Spotlight that they host once a month, and I'm honored to be a part of it. Please go check out their facebook page: Alternate Reality I also plan on attending Wonder Con in March, Phoenix Comic Con in May, San Diego Comic Con in July and Las Vegas Comic Expo later in the year. Between those times I will be hard at work building my portfolio, working on some pieces just for ebay as well as some other goals. So keep an eye out! Later! XOXO

Dawn: The Goddess

I'm in love with Joseph Michael Linsner's Dawn. I have all three of the trade paperbacks of his latest Dawn tales, Lucifer's Halo, Dawn: Three Tiers and Dawn: Return of the Goddess. I had the good fortune to meet Joseph Michael Linsner in person and talk, somewhat fangirlishly, to him and express my love of his work. I hope to get all my trade paperbacks signed one day. Since I love Dawn so much, I thought I should do my own interpretation of her, so here she is, in all her glory!

I also decided to track my progress of the coloring of Dawn:The Goddess, which you can see at my tumblr:

That's it for now, more updates soon!

Urban Angel

So my latest piece actually debuted at Las Vegas Comic Expo.
Urban Angel is something that I had been thinking of for a long time and was one of those things that I really wanted to do, but couldn't trust myself doing. But, with my recent foray into solid inking and adding backgrounds, I figured it was time to jump into it and get at least one thing out of my head. So, Urban Angel:

11x17 Comic Board, done in Faber-Castell and Copic Ink Pens, shaded with Prismacolor Markers

I actually have a bit of a story behind this one. It was actually two years and a half years ago that I came up with the idea, about a angel crazed by today's Urban world, who sets out to destroy it and can be seen grinning over it's loss. At the time, the pose and my idea of the background was something I wasn't sure I could do. I could have posed for it myself, but that seemed a little too egotistical to me, and I try not to be. The only other person I could see as the Urban Angel was Meagan Marie. She's always been one of my favorite cosplayers and is a genuinely nice person, so I contacted her and she agreed to be the model. I don't think she, or I, realized it was going to take me awhile to do this. But my day job and moving interfered quite a bit.
But, I'm glad I finally got it done and out there.
Prints of this piece are available and you can inquire about one by emailing me at: randileeannart@gmail.com

Post Las Vegas Expo

Hey everyone! Its been a couple of days since the Las Vegas Comic Expo, so I thought I'd share my experience. It was my first time having a table to show off my work and I loved every second of it. I'm not going to lie, I was a little nervous and worried that I'd be sitting by myself since I'm relatively unknown, but I got a lot of people that came by and talked to me, looked at my work and even asked for a few sketches. One of my favorite moments was being able to draw on the Batman #0 sketch cover!

Probably one of my other favorite things was being able to talk shop with other artists and discuss comics and art with fans. I had a blast and I'm looking forward to doing it again! Here's a few photos, one of me being incredibly awkward at my booth because I just realized I was getting my photo taken and wasn't sure what to do:

The finished result of the drawing I was working on in the above image.

Ryan Denton of RAD Costuming stayed with us for the Expo and even won some categories in the Costume Contest Saturday, so congrats to him! More photos can be seen on my facebook!
Like I said, I plan on having a table again, more than likely at next year's Phoenix Con. We're loosely planning on going to Wonder Con next year as well, but I'm not sure if I plan on getting a table there yet.
I also have some more exciting news, while I was at the Expo, I had the chance to talk to Ralph of Alternate Reality Comics here in Vegas and we plan on having a showing of my work at his store in February of next year, so as soon as things become more clear cut and planned on that, I'll share more info! Thanks to everyone who came by and saw me and talked to me, I enjoyed making new friends!

Art of the Day: Grimm

I've been busy putting things together for the Las Vegas Comic Expo at the end of the month. There still a lot to do!

I'm changing how I'm labeling my blogs from now on too. Sketch of the Day posts imply that the piece is not yet finished, when in some cases, at that moment in time, I do consider it finished, unless I imply otherwise. So here's another one of my pieces, Grimm:

11x17 Bristol Board
Faber-Castell, Copic and Prismacolor Pens and Markers

This piece was actually my boyfriend Dan's idea. He found a reference image that he thought looked cool and pitched a few alternate ideas, coming up with the idea for a female Grim Reaper, without all the bones. Make sure you come and see it at Las Vegas Comic Expo September 29-30th!

I'm in the main exhibit hall, Parthenon. I'll have prints and originals for sale, so if you're going, make sure you come by to say hello!

I hope to see you there!

Sketch of the Day: Space Girl

I've had a hectic week this week and didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to. I blame it on my car, which decided to stop starting up on me and we had to make several runs to the dealer to try to get it fixed. Its still not fixed. But I'm hoping this week will be the week it'll be fixed.
Anyway! Enough about my car problems, the time I had where I wasn't stressing out, I was working on another ink piece. I'm really beginning to like doing these. I went with a space girl theme this time. Here she is!:

Faber-Castell and Copic Ink Pens on 11x17 Bristol Board

I chose a different styling on this one, instead of covering the whole paper like I usually do, I left an open space of an inch on both sides to create a border. I'm thinking about coloring this one eventually, but not right now. I have a lot to do before Las Vegas Comic Expo before the end of this month. So it'll have to wait until after that. I'll probably start turning out colored pieces in November, when all my other projects are done.
Also! An update on Las Vegas Comic Expo! There was a change in the floor plan so I have updated information. My booth# is now T22. Here's a map to help you out:
